The proper digestion and absorption of nutrients is critical for health.  Pancreatic diseases are sometimes associated with severe malnutrition, or with milder forms of malnutrition.  Unfortunately, this has not been well studied.  Several tests that are often done to evaluate nutrition include:

  • Protein malnutrition – albumin, prealbumin, retinal binding protein (RBP)
  • Fat soluble vitamins – A, D, E and K
  • Vitamin B12 (because of loss of R factor)
  • Anti-oxidants, such as selenium, zinc, glutathione and calcium
